Vaginal Birth After Cesarean: Pros and Cons
60 to 80 per cent of women who attempt a vaginal birth after Cesarean are successful. There are several benefits of vaginal delivery compared to undergoing another C-section. Vaginal delivery does not involve surgery, nor the possible complications that can arise with surgery. Recovery from vaginal delivery is typically much quicker than recovery from a C-section. However, attempts at vaginal birth after Cesarean are not always successful. When this is the case, complications can arise — the most serious of which being uterine rupture, in which the uterus tears. This happens in fewer than 1 percent of VBAC cases, but can be life threatening to the baby, and can result in a hysterectomy being necessary.
Dr. James Duerkes can help determine if you are a good candidate for vaginal birth after Cesarean. There are many factors to consider which can indicate this. For example, if you have had previous vaginal deliveries, if your last C-section happened over 18 months ago, and if you have not had prior C-sections, there is a higher chance of success with VBAC.

“Doctor Duerkes is the consummate professional. He is adroit and extremely educated but moreover he is warm and personable. Because I am over 35 my pregnancy was labeled as high risk and as an added layer of complexity my baby was breeched so needless to say my anxiety level was high throughout the process and Doctor Duerkes was patient every step of the way answering all of my questions and guiding me through the best course of treatment. If my family remains in the Miramar area I hope to remain his patient for many years to come.” - Sharee Awwal on Google Reviews
